Since it was incorporated in 1944, Abantia has been immersed in various projects in the energy field, primarily in the renewable energies sector. Among its diverse operations across all industrial sectors, Abantia manages, operates and develops photovoltaic solar, solar thermal electric and biomass plants through Abantia Sun Energy. The group’s turnover in 2008 amounted to Euros 300 million and it has a workforce of over two thousand employees.
In operation
At present, Abantia operates renewable energy plants in Spain and Greece with a capacity of 26.5 MW. Abantia Sun Energy manages five photovoltaic arrays in operation: four in Spain with an installed capacity of 7.16 MW, and one in Greece with a total capacity of 100 kW. In the near future, Abantia’s objective is to construct and operate photovoltaic solar plants, wind farms, solar thermal electric facilities and biomass plants both in Spain and internationally, especially in European countries such as Italy, Greece and France, but also in the United States where it already operates and is constructing several projects.
FLAGSHIP PROJECTS
- SOLAR THERMAL ELECTRIC: two plants of 25 MW and 50 MW in Catalonia and Andalusia, respectively; plus a 100 MW plant under development in Castilla y León.
- PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLAR: by 2010, two plants of 2 MW and 3 MW, both in the region of Castilla y León.
- BIOMASS: two projects in the regions of Valencia and Castilla y León under consideration.
